Mark Clancy
Mark Clancy, 59, is a former student of Belvedere College in Dublin who has come forward to share his traumatic experiences of physical abuse at the hands of Jesuit staff during his education. He has been diagnosed with a traumatic brain injury, which he attributes to the physical assaults he endured while attending the school. Now living in Washington State, Clancy recalls begging his parents to transfer him out of the school due to the abuse, which included being thrown across the room. His memories of his time at Belvedere have been further complicated by newly resurfaced repressed memories of an encounter with Finbarr Lynch, a Jesuit named in a report on abuse.
