Marko Makovec

Marko Makovec is a Slovenian diplomat who has recently been appointed as the chief advisor for reconciliation and normalization in the Western Balkans by the European Commission. His role is within the Directorate-General for Enlargement and Eastern Neighbourhood, which oversees the EU's enlargement policy and relations with Eastern neighbors. Before this appointment, Makovec served as the chief of staff to the European Commissioner for Enlargement, Olivér Várhelyi, and held a directorial position in the European External Action Service, focusing on the Western Balkans, Turkey, and post-Brexit relations with the United Kingdom.
