Marta Eugenia Esquivel
Marta Eugenia Esquivel is a Costa Rican politician and the former executive president of the Caja Costarricense de Seguro Social (CCSS). She gained attention in 2023 for receiving an illegal salary of ¢7 million monthly, exceeding the legal cap of ¢5.565 million as mandated by the Ley de Fortalecimiento de las Finanzas Públicas. Despite the findings of the Contraloría General de la República, which ordered the recovery of excess payments, Esquivel has resisted returning the funds, claiming entitlement to her salary and preparing to file a labor lawsuit against the CCSS.
