Marthe Donas

Marthe Donas was a pioneering Belgian modernist artist born in 1885, who initially adopted the gender-neutral name Tour Donas to navigate the male-dominated art world. Despite facing challenges, including a lack of support from her family and interruptions to her education due to historical events, she developed a distinctive style that included shaped paintings and cubist influences. After a brief but impactful career, Donas fell into obscurity, but a recent exhibition at the Royal Museum of Fine Arts in Antwerp aims to restore her legacy and highlight her contributions to modernism.
