Martiale
Martiale, known as Marcus Valerius Martialis, was a Roman poet born in around 40 AD in Bilbilis, Spain. He is best remembered for his epigrams, which are short, witty poems that often comment on social and personal themes. Living in Rome, Martiale became popular for his satirical and sometimes scathing verses that critiqued the society of his time, including its politics, morals, and customs. His work has influenced many poets and writers throughout history, and he is considered one of the greatest masters of the epigram form.
