Maryam Babangida
Maryam Babangida, originally named Maria Okogwu, was the wife of former Nigerian military president Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida. Known for her beauty and grace, she converted to Islam prior to their marriage in 1969, a decision that was made easier due to her mixed religious background. Maryam played a significant role in her husband's life during his military and political career, and together they had four children. She was remembered for her resilience and dedication to her family until her death from ovarian cancer in 2009.
