Matías Chacón

Matías Chacón is a prominent Argentine oncologist, currently serving as the head of the Clinical Oncology Department at the Alexander Fleming Institute and the academic director of the Misionero Cancer Institute. With a career dedicated to cancer treatment and prevention, he has been influential in advocating for better cancer registries and public health policies in Argentina. Recently, he has gained recognition for his leadership role as the first Argentine to preside over the International Affairs Committee of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), where he aims to enhance medical education and promote global access to cancer treatment. Chacón is also deeply committed to training the next generation of oncologists, continuing a family legacy in the field, as his father, Reinaldo Chacón, is also a respected oncologist.
