He played a pivotal role in the Russian Navy during the reign of Peter the Great, becoming a prominent figure in naval warfare and shipbuilding. Zmajević was renowned for his naval tactics and leadership, notably during the Great Northern War, where he led successful operations against Swedish forces. Despite his achievements, he faced political challenges and personal struggles, particularly his deep nostalgia for his homeland, which he could never return to after being exiled. He died in 1735, leaving a legacy as a hero of the Russian Navy and a benefactor to his native Perast.
