Mehdi Husejnzade, also known as Mihajlo in Slovenia, was an Azerbaijani national hero born in 1918 near Baku. During World War II, he served as a partisan fighter after initially fighting with the Red Army. Captured by German forces during the Battle of Stalingrad, he became a translator due to his language skills and later organized a mass escape of Soviet prisoners to join the partisans. Renowned for his bravery, he conducted numerous successful sabotage operations against Nazi and fascist forces. Husejnzade died in November 1944 in a conflict with German soldiers and is remembered as a symbol of courage that unites Azerbaijan and Slovenia.
