
Mehdi Khan
Mehdi Khan, known as the 'Khaznadar' or treasurer of Naser al-Din Shah of the Qajar dynasty, was a prominent figure in 19th century Tehran, serving as the king's trusted aide and financial manager. He became well-known for always having small coins in his pockets, which he would dispense at the Shah's request. A wealthy resident of the Amiriyah neighborhood, he is remembered for building a mosque named after him, the Madiyeh Mosque, as a charitable act. His life ended in Kufa, Iraq, after marrying Setareh Khanum, a former concubine of the Shah.
