Merike Rõtova is a distinguished Estonian chess player and journalist, celebrated for her contributions to the game and her role in shaping Estonian chess over several decades. As an international grandmaster in correspondence chess and a two-time silver medalist in the Veterans World Championships, Rõtova has demonstrated that age and results are not the sole measures of a sports career. At 90 years old, she continues to be a significant figure in the chess community, serving as a teacher, editor, and author of chess literature, thereby preserving and promoting the history and development of chess in Estonia.
