Michael Chartschenko
Michael Chartschenko was a Ukrainian forced laborer and the last known victim of Nazi terror in Salzburg, murdered by the SS on May 4, 1945, just before the arrival of the US Army. At 31 years old, he had previously been interned at Dachau concentration camp and survived the perilous 'Himmelfahrtskommando' tasked with bomb disposal. His legacy is commemorated through one of the first Stolpersteine installed in Salzburg by artist Gunter Demnig in 2007.
