
Michael Schwerner
Michael Schwerner was an American civil rights activist who played a pivotal role in the fight against racial discrimination in the 1960s. He was one of three young men murdered in Mississippi in June 1964 while working on voter registration efforts for African Americans. Schwerner's disappearance and subsequent murder, along with his colleagues James Earl Chaney and Andrew Goodman, drew national attention to the violent opposition that civil rights activists faced, ultimately contributing to the passage of the Civil Rights Act.
