Michael Valentino Teofrasto Carturan is a 29-year-old Italian originally from Rivoli, near Turin. He studied at the Cottini artistic high school in Turin and later at a permaculture institute in Cuneo, where he was active in promoting sustainable practices. In May 2025, Carturan traveled to New York for a mix of tourism and language study but was unfortunately kidnapped and tortured for over two weeks due to business-related disputes with an associate in the cryptocurrency field. After managing to escape, he reported his ordeal to the police, leading to the arrest of his captor.
