Miguel Ángel Hernández Núñez was a prominent Dominican journalist and union leader, known for his influential role in the fight for press freedom and democracy in the Dominican Republic. Born in Puerto Plata, he faced significant adversity during the Trujillo dictatorship, where he was imprisoned and severely injured, yet continued to advocate for journalism throughout his life. He founded the National Union of Professional Journalists in 1965 and served as the first secretary general. In addition to his media career, he was also an ambassador to Taiwan under President Hipólito Mejía. Hernández passed away at 88, leaving behind a legacy of resilience and commitment to the profession.
