Miguel Padeiro

Miguel Padeiro is a geographer and professor at the University of Coimbra (UC), where he also conducts research at the CEGOT – Center for Studies in Geography and Spatial Planning. He is the coordinator of the SINDIA project, which focuses on socio-spatial inequalities related to dementia in Portugal. The project, funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology until 2026, aims to shed light on the realities faced by over 200,000 individuals living with dementia in the country, particularly how economic, social, territorial, and educational inequalities affect their experiences and those of their caregivers. His work seeks to influence public policies to enhance the living conditions of these individuals, especially in light of alarming findings regarding the institutionalization of elderly dementia patients.
