Mikhail Boychuk was a prominent Ukrainian avant-garde artist and reformist educator known for his role in the development of Ukrainian modernism. He played a significant part in shaping Ukrainian identity and preserving folk art traditions. Boychuk's unique style, termed 'Boychukism,' fused Byzantine iconography with elements of modern monumental art. Despite his contributions, he faced persecution under Soviet rule, leading to his execution in 1937, along with many of his students.
