Mikkel Eskil Andre Mikkelsen

Mikkel Eskil Andre Mikkelsen was a prominent figure in Sámi politics, having represented the Norwegian Sámi National Federation at the Sámediggi (Sami Parliament) since 2017. He held responsibilities for youth policy, education, language, and diversity. Tragically, he was found dead in February 2025, and it was confirmed by his family that he took his own life amidst the pressures following his arrest on charges related to child exploitation material, which he had admitted to. His case drew significant media attention, which his family indicated contributed to the burdens he faced in the months leading up to his death.
