
Mircea Basarab
Mircea Basarab (1921-2023) was a prominent Romanian conductor, composer, and university professor. He began his musical career in the late 1940s and gained recognition for his orchestral works, including concertos for violin and oboe. Basarab served as a permanent conductor of the George Enescu Philharmonic in Bucharest until 1986 and held the position of director for five years. He was influential in the Romanian music scene, participating in numerous tours across Europe and beyond, and contributed to music education through his teaching at the Bucharest Conservatory.
