Mohammad Uwais

Justice Mohammad Uwais, the former Chief Justice of Nigeria, passed away on June 6, 2025, leaving a legacy of judicial excellence and integrity. Serving as the 9th CJN from 1995 until his retirement in 2006, Uwais was instrumental in implementing judicial reforms and establishing the National Judicial Council to uphold the independence of the judiciary. Born on June 12, 1936, in Zaria, Kaduna State, he had a distinguished career marked by his commitment to justice and legal education, mentoring many young lawyers and judges throughout his life.
