Mohammed Yakub Janabi

Prof Mohammed Yakub Janabi has recently been elected as the new Regional Director for Africa at the World Health Organization (WHO), following a successful campaign that emphasized his vision for transformative health systems across the continent. With over 30 years of experience in public health leadership and clinical practice, he previously served as a Senior Advisor on Health Policy and Nutrition to Tanzanian Presidents Jakaya Kikwete and Samia Suluhu Hassan. He is recognized for founding the Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac Institute, significantly improving cardiac care in Tanzania, and championing the use of digital tools in healthcare delivery.
