Mrs. Embalo

Mrs. Embalo, the ex-First Lady of Guinea-Bissau, has recently been in the news following her detention in Portugal in connection with a money laundering investigation. Her involvement came to light after a close associate of former President Umaro Sissoco Embalo was arrested at Lisbon airport with suitcases containing approximately five million euros in cash. While Mrs. Embalo was traveling on the same flight, she was not arrested at that time, but her subsequent detention indicates an expansion of the investigation into transnational financial crimes.
