Mugambi Kiai

Mugambi Kiai was a prominent human rights lawyer and activist in Kenya, known for his unwavering commitment to democracy, good governance, and the rule of law. With a legal education from the University of Nairobi and Harvard Law School, he dedicated nearly three decades to advocating for human rights and civic freedoms, earning respect across the region. As the Regional Director for Eastern Africa at ARTICLE 19, he championed freedom of expression and access to information. Despite facing serious health challenges, including end-stage kidney failure, Kiai remained a steadfast voice for justice until his passing in 2024, leaving behind a rich legacy in the fight for human rights.
