Muhammad Ahmad Mahdi

leader Sudan

Muhammad Ahmad Mahdi was a Sudanese religious and political leader who led a significant uprising against British-Egyptian rule in the late 19th century. He proclaimed himself the Mahdi, or 'guided one', in 1881, rallying followers against foreign domination and advocating for a unified Islamic state in Sudan. His movement, known as the Mahdist Revolution, captured Khartoum in 1885, and while he died shortly thereafter, his legacy continued to influence Sudanese nationalism and Islamic thought.
