Murad Niyazov is a 42-year-old entrepreneur from Atyrau, Kazakhstan, who owns a small company specializing in the management and disposal of oil-containing waste. He recently gained media attention after being fined an astronomical 37.4 billion tenge for allegedly violating environmental laws by collecting hazardous oil waste without the necessary permits. Niyazov disputes the charges, claiming that independent environmental assessments showed no violations on his part and that his company has developed a patented method for safely treating oil waste. He is currently appealing the court's decision, which could financially burden him for 3,700 years if upheld.
