Mychal Thompson is a former professional basketball player and the first foreign-born player to be selected as the No. 1 overall pick in the NBA Draft, chosen by the Portland Trail Blazers in 1978. He went on to have a successful career in the NBA, winning back-to-back championships with the Los Angeles Lakers in 1987 and 1988.
