Mykola Kalinichenko was a remarkable Ukrainian surgeon born in 1924, who became renowned for his heroic medical work on whaling fleets. After surviving severe injuries during World War II, he dedicated his life to medicine, particularly in challenging maritime environments. Over his 28-year career, he conducted more than three thousand surgeries under extreme conditions, even performing surgery on himself during a storm at sea. His innovative medical research led to the development of the 'Spedian' ointment, which significantly improved healing for various skin conditions and was used by millions worldwide.
