Naftali Fürst
Naftali (Juraj) Fürst, a 92-year-old Holocaust survivor originally from Bratislava, has become a prominent figure in commemorating the victims of Nazi concentration camps. He endured the horrors of Sereď and Auschwitz before being transferred to Buchenwald, where he was liberated on April 11, 1945. Fürst, who was assigned the prisoner number 14021, is featured in one of the most famous photographs from the liberation of the camps. He currently serves as the chairman of the International Committee Buchenwald-Dora and Commands (IKBD), raising concerns about the lessons learned from Germany's past, especially in light of rising far-right movements and antisemitic incidents. His family has also recently faced tragedy, as his granddaughter and her family survived a Hamas terrorist attack in Israel.
Born on Jan 01, 1931 (94 years old)
