Napoleon Soukatzidis
Napoleon Soukatzidis was a Greek communist trade unionist who became a symbol of resistance during the Nazi occupation of Greece. After being arrested and exiled during the Metaxas dictatorship, he was handed over to the Nazis in 1941. Soukatzidis was known for his role as an interpreter in various prisons and ultimately met a tragic fate when he chose to stand in solidarity with others facing execution. On May 1, 1944, he was executed by the Nazis along with 199 others in Kaisariani, refusing to save himself at the cost of another's life.
