Nelson Haase Mazzei is a retired Chilean colonel who was recently arrested after being a fugitive for nearly half a century. He was sentenced to 25 years in prison for his role in the murder of folk singer Víctor Jara and another man during the repressive regime of Augusto Pinochet. Mazzei was a member of the notorious Tejas Verde brigade and later worked with the secret police, known for his involvement in human rights abuses during the dictatorship.
