Niamh O'Meara

Dr. Niamh O’Meara is an associate professor in mathematics education at the School of Education, University of Limerick. With over 18 years of experience in researching methods to enhance the teaching and learning of mathematics, she has been a critical voice in the ongoing debate about the Bonus Points Initiative (BPI) for higher-level mathematics in Ireland. Her research has highlighted the unintended consequences of the BPI, including its impact on classroom dynamics and student well-being, prompting her advocacy for reforms that align better with the educational needs of students and teachers.
