Nick Goerg, 35, is a former compulsive gambler who began placing bets through a bookie in college. As legalized sports betting became available in New York, he found himself caught in a cycle of increasingly reckless gambling, leading to significant financial losses and a deepening addiction. After a particularly devastating loss during March Madness 2023, Goerg reached a breaking point and sought help, ultimately quitting gambling entirely. He has since focused on rebuilding his relationship with sports, creating an app called Rate Game that allows fans to review and appreciate sporting events without the influence of gambling.
