Nicola Anderson
Nicola Anderson, a 21-year-old student at The University of the West Indies, Mona, has demonstrated remarkable resilience in the face of significant challenges. After becoming totally blind at a young age due to retinal detachment, she overcame obstacles that nearly halted her education. With the support of a family friend, she resumed her studies at the Salvation Army School for the Blind and later excelled at The Queen’s School, embracing the difficulties of learning in a sighted environment. In 2023, she received a scholarship from the Running Events’ Everyone’s A Winner Road Race, alleviating financial burdens for her family and enabling her to pursue a double major in political science and public policy and management. Anderson aims to advocate for inclusive policies that enhance the lives of individuals with disabilities, serving as an inspiring example that challenges do not define a person.
