Nicola Benedetto

Nicola Benedetto, born in 1955, is a prominent Lucanian entrepreneur known for his visionary efforts in the hospitality industry, particularly as the owner of Palazzo Gattini, the first five-star hotel in Matera. He embarked on this ambitious project in 2002, during a time when the Sassi district was still recovering from decades of neglect. His determination and business acumen played a significant role in transforming the area into a vibrant tourist destination, especially after Matera was named the European Capital of Culture in 2014. Aside from hospitality, Benedetto has made contributions in various sectors, including aluminum production and publishing, co-founding the newspaper La Verità. He has also had a notable political career, serving as a regional councilor and holding various governmental positions in Basilicata.
