Nicolai Șepeli is a Moldovan individual who gained media attention due to his involvement in a criminal case concerning a plot to assassinate public figures in Ukraine. Initially granted clemency in April 2022 on the grounds of being a victim of human trafficking, his case was later revisited and the clemency revoked in February 2026 after authorities uncovered his alleged participation in a criminal group planning targeted killings. He had previously been convicted in Russia for drug trafficking and was serving his sentence in Moldova when the assassination plot was uncovered.
