Nicolás Steno

Nicolás Steno (1638-1686) was a Danish bishop and scientist who is often regarded as the father of modern geology. His groundbreaking work laid the foundations for the principles of stratigraphy, and he is best known for formulating the law of superposition, which states that in any undisturbed sequence of rocks, the oldest layers are at the bottom.
