Nicoșor Dan

Nicoșor Dan is a Romanian politician and the current mayor of Bucharest, having won the position in the 2020 local elections. A member of the Save Romania Union (USR), he is known for his pro-European stance and advocacy for transparency and anti-corruption measures in local governance. Dan, who has a background in mathematics and philosophy, previously served as an activist and co-founder of the Romanian civic movement that aimed to promote democratic values and fight against corruption. His election as mayor marked a significant shift in Bucharest's political landscape, especially following the annulment of the presidential elections in which far-right candidate Calin Georgesca unexpectedly gained traction.
