Nikolay Shin
Nikolay Shin (1928–2006) was a prominent Uzbek artist known for his unique and boundary-defying works. Born in Primorsky Krai, he pursued his education in fine arts in Tashkent, studying at the P. Benkov School of Art and the A. Ostrovsky Theater and Art Institute. Throughout his career, Shin dedicated over thirty years to creating a series of works titled 'Requiem. The Path of Memory' and 'A Legend About Love,' which reflect the complex history of the 20th century. His art often addressed themes of personal and collective memory, notably highlighting the deportation of Koreans from the Far East to Uzbekistan in the 1930s long before it became a widely discussed subject. His recent exhibition in Tashkent, marking the 585th anniversary of Alisher Navoi's birth, showcases around 40 works that explore the intersection of personal memory and classic culture, demonstrating his deep connection to Navoi's themes of human emotion, suffering, and solitude.
