Nydia Quintero de Balcázar, who served as the first lady of Colombia from 1978 to 1982, passed away at the age of 93. She was celebrated for her humanitarian efforts, particularly in education for children, support for the elderly, and aid to impoverished communities through her foundation, Solidaridad por Colombia. The widow of former president Julio César Turbay Ayala, Nydia was also the mother of journalist Diana Turbay, who tragically lost her life during a kidnapping. Her death coincides with her grandson Miguel Uribe Turbay's hospitalization following a violent attack.
