
Oddur Sigurðsson
Oddur Sigurðsson is an esteemed Icelandic glaciologist and environmental educator who has dedicated over five decades to the study and preservation of Iceland's glaciers. He gained notable recognition for his research on the impact of climate change on glacial formations, including his pivotal discovery in 2014 that the glacier Ok had vanished. Oddur has authored numerous reports and books on glaciers, created detailed maps of Icelandic glaciers, and has been a long-time member of the Icelandic Glaciological Society. His extensive photography archive, preserved at the Icelandic Meteorological Office, contains around 55,000 images documenting the natural beauty and environmental changes in Iceland. In recognition of his relentless efforts in environmental education and advocacy, he was awarded the Sigríður in Brattholt Nature Conservation Award in 2025 during an environmental conference.
