Oleg Penkovsky was a Soviet military intelligence officer who became a key spy for the West during the Cold War, providing crucial information about Soviet missile capabilities and nuclear strategy. His intelligence significantly impacted Western understanding of Soviet military operations, particularly during the Cuban Missile Crisis, but he was captured and executed by Soviet authorities in the early 1980s.
