Oleksandr Markov

Oleksandr Markov, a 74-year-old civilian prisoner from Enerhodar, tragically died during his transport to a Russian prison on June 26, 2025. He had been arrested on May 8, 2024, and held for nearly a year without his family's knowledge of his fate. Markov was sentenced to 14 years in a high-security colony on charges of 'state treason' by an occupation court. His death has been a stark reminder of the harsh treatment faced by civilians and prisoners of war in the ongoing conflict, as noted by Enerhodar's mayor, Dmytro Orlov.
