Otto of Bavaria
Otto of Bavaria, known as King Otto of Greece, was the first modern king of Greece, reigning from 1832 to 1862. He was appointed to the throne at a young age following the Greek War of Independence, and his reign initially promised stability for the nascent Greek state. However, his rule became characterized by autocratic governance and a lack of a constitution, leading to widespread dissatisfaction and economic hardship among the Greek populace. Eventually, public pressure and a military uprising in 1843 compelled him to accept the establishment of a constitutional monarchy, culminating in the proclamation of a constitution on March 18, 1844.
