Ovidius Naso
Ovidius Naso, commonly known as Ovid, was a prominent Roman poet who lived during the reign of Emperor Augustus. Born in 43 BC, he is best known for his works 'Metamorphoses' and 'The Art of Love,' which explore themes of love, transformation, and myth. His life took a dramatic turn when he was exiled to Tomis (modern-day Constanța, Romania) in AD 8, a punishment shrouded in mystery, believed to be linked to political tensions and the emperor's fear of dissenting voices. During his years in exile, Ovid penned poignant poetry reflecting his longing for Rome and his feelings of isolation, including 'Tristia' and 'Epistulae ex Ponto.' He died in exile in AD 17 or 18, leaving a lasting legacy as one of the most influential poets of classical literature.
