Pai Ko (白克) was a pioneering Taiwanese film director born in 1914 in Xiamen, China. He became known for his contributions to Taiwanese cinema, particularly for directing films in the Hoklo language that promoted cultural harmony. With a career that saw him produce notable works such as 'The Mad Woman’s 18 Years' and 'Romance of Longshan Temple,' Pai's filmmaking was deeply influenced by his early political activism and experiences during the Sino-Japanese War. Despite his success, he faced severe political persecution, leading to his arrest and execution by the Chinese Nationalist Party in 1964.
