Paksan Azizi
Paksan Azizi is a 40-year-old Kurdish woman sentenced to death by an Iranian court in July 2024 for allegedly organizing an armed rebellion against the state. Prior to her arrest, she provided humanitarian support to displaced women and children in Syrian camps and Iraqi Kurdistan from 2014 to 2022. Arrested on August 4, 2023, she was subjected to severe psychological and physical torture during her detention, which included being held in solitary confinement without contact with her family or legal counsel.
