Papa Gregorio XIII

Pope Gregory XIII, born Ugo Boncompagni in 1502, was the head of the Catholic Church from 1572 until his death in 1585. He is best known for introducing the Gregorian Calendar in 1582, which corrected inaccuracies in the Julian Calendar and realigned the calendar with the equinoxes. This reform was significant for the Church and European society as it sought to standardize the measurement of time and the scheduling of religious observances. Gregory's papacy also saw efforts to address the Protestant Reformation and enhance the Catholic Counter-Reformation.
