Patrik Grönqvist
Patrik Grönqvist is a 54-year-old Finnish firefighter and technical diver with over 30 years of experience exploring submerged mines and caves. He was part of a rescue team that retrieved the bodies of four individuals from a cave in Dhekunu Kandu, Maldives. Alongside his colleagues Sami Paakkarinen and Jenni Westerlund, Grönqvist's efforts led to recognition from Italian President Sergio Mattarella, who awarded the team the Merito della Repubblica Italiana. Grönqvist emphasizes that their actions were driven by professionalism rather than heroism, stating, 'We are just divers.'
