Paul Ullatitaq Idlout
Paul Ullatitaq Idlout, born on April 21, 1935, in Mittimatalik, Baffin Island, was a pioneering figure in the Anglican Church as the world's first Inuk bishop. He grew up in a nomadic lifestyle, deeply connected to the land and traditional Inuit practices. After facing significant hardships, including a government relocation in the 1950s, he dedicated his life to serving his community and was ordained in 1990. Idlout was known for his humility, kindness, and commitment to peace and reconciliation, leaving a lasting legacy in both the church and the Inuit community before passing away in Iqaluit on New Year's Eve at the age of 90.
