Pavel Gorin-Kolyada
Pavel Gorin-Kolyada, born in 1900 in Berёza-Kartuzskaya, was a prominent Belarusian academic and politician. He served as the second president of the Belarusian Academy of Sciences and played a significant role in the reorganization of the academy and the development of graduate education in Belarus. A member of the Communist Party, he held various influential positions, including editor of Soviet journals and head of the Department of History at Moscow State University. Unfortunately, his career was cut short when he was arrested by the NKVD in 1937 and executed for allegedly participating in a counter-revolutionary organization. Gorin-Kolyada was posthumously rehabilitated in 1955, and a memorial plaque was recently unveiled in his honor in Berёza.
